.NET
Many developers have asked for ODBC support as part of the .NET Framework. You can now obtain ODBC.NET for your Visual Studio.NET installation at http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/sample.asp?url=/MSDN-FILES/027/001/668/msdncompositedoc.xml . According to a Microsoft representative, this support probably won't ship with Visual Studio.NET, but you can continue downloading from the Microsoft Web site. ODBC.NET works with SQL Server, Oracle, and the Jet Engine. You can also discuss ODBC.NET on the microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.odbcnet newsgroup.

Are you tired of fighting with the Visual Studio.NET IDE, and it's not even out of beta yet? Some other developers are doing something about it. You can find the Antechinus C# Editor at http://www.c-point.com/ , which is a nice alternative to the open source SharpDevelop editor found at http://www.icsharpcode.net/ . Many developers feel either editor is an improvement over the Microsoft offering. Your mileage may vary. By the way, the Antechinus site has a wealth of other developers aids you might want to check even if you do like the Visual Studio.NET IDE.

XML/XSL
An excellent collection of over 100 XSLT examples, if I say so myself.  For many of us, seeing working examples really helps to speed up the learning process. XSLT is an extremely important technology for anybody involved in developing XML-based solutions. However, it is a bit tricky to pick up at first. This month, yours truly has assembled a collection of XSLT examples that fall into 17 categories and demonstrate functionality from sorting and filtering to combining XML documents to Muenchian grouping. Enjoy.Check them out at: http://www.xmlpitstop.com/Default.asp?DataType=SSC .
Transfer Data Between Databases: Use ADO and XML to shuttle data from one database to another. One of the key benefits of ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) is its ability to query data from disparate sources. However, you still might want to transfer data from one data source to another for improved query abilities or to refresh your data. You can use ADO and XML to grab data from one data source and send all the data to a new one Combining ADO and XML lets you work with recordsets directly instead of going through the ADO API, allowing you to extend the Recordset object's functionality.Check it out at: http://www.vbpj.com/upload/free/features/vbpj/2001/08aug01/sq0108/sq0108.asp.
Code Snippet: How to Use the ADO Stream Object to Retrieve SQL 2000 XML So often you read about how to retrieve your FOR XML queries with the new SQL 7/2000 HTTP settings. But this method exposes your database and does not have tight security. The following snippet explains how to use the ADO stream object to retrieve your FOR XML stored procedures.Check it out at: http://www.topxml.com/snippetcentral/main.asp?view=viewsnippet&lang=&id=v20010831191240 .

Donkey.net using XML Web Services Donkey.net is an excellent application that uses XML Web Services. Donkey.NET is a sample Visual Basic.NET application that gives Visual Basic developers a first look at new features in the Visual Basic.NET language. The sample, a driving simulation, enables users to drive through a three-dimensional terrain while trying to avoid the donkey obstacles. Behind this lighthearted demo is some very serious technology See it, download it, enjoy it at…. http://msdn.microsoft.com/vbasic/donkey.asp.

Cool Web Service to Generate High Quality 3D Headings A Web Service that generates high quality 3D text heading graphics. You pass the graphic template style, along with the text, color, and a few other parameters. This renders a high quality anti-aliased graphic, stores it on the server, and returns the URL of the graphic. The SOAP call should take approximately half a second.  Check it out at: http://www.salcentral.com/link.asp?ID=197 .
Misc
Most developers have to test application installation routines, which means their MSI cache becomes filled with junk. You can get rid of some of those old files using a cache-cleaning utility such as the one from Happy Bunny  http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~smithjn/wise.html
