NEWS

"Microsoft won't defeat Java"  Microsoft and Java are just going to have to play nice together. A Gartner analyst says users will have to support both Microsoft and Java application server standards for several years and that neither will replace the other. Microsoft's .Net architecture is likely to be incompatible with its current Com and Com+ standards the analyst warned.  SOURCE: vnunet http://www.vnunet.com/News/1114159

ADO

Whenever a new version of ADO comes out, most of us cringe and wait for the fallout. According to Bill Vaughn, president of Beta V Corporation, retired Microsoft VB/SQL guru, author, and frequent contributor to the VBDATA mailing list (see http://peach.ease.lsoft.com/archives/vbdata-l.html ), migration from 2.5 to 2.6 is generally painless. Although ADO 2.6 has a number of new datatypes to support BigInt, sql_Variant, and so on, as well as support for the new "Streaming" interface that works with XML, the differences between 2.5 and 2.6 "are generally benign."
